Corey Escoto: Sleight of Hand, Artist Talk and Opening

"Join us in the CMOA Theater for a lively presentation with artist Corey Escoto on the eve of his first solo museum show. Escoto will discuss his two- and three-dimensional works, which meditate on the production and consumption of illusion, both in terms of what we accept as photographic truth and, more broadly, how we distinguish fact from fiction in an evermore manipulated, media-saturated world. After the talk, be among the first to celebrate Corey Escoto: Sleight of Hand, part of the city-wide 2014 Pittsburgh Biennial. The exhibition brings together several bodies of Escoto’s work, in which he uses obsolete technologies and handcrafted processes to subvert digital culture’s slick, instantaneous nature, introducing elements of chance, humor, and human error."
