Danny Bracken: HERE

In this solo show, Bracken explores Pittsburgh's neighborhoods. The exhibition included four pieces: The Lower Hill: Over and Over and Allegheny Center: Over and Over (both projection works), Home Maker I & II (single-channel videos contained in wall-mounted sculptures constructed from found materials). In an email to Alexandra Oliver, the artist described it this way: "For his first solo exhibition in Pittsburgh, Danny Bracken investigates our shifting sense of place in the information age. Utilizing video, sound, and sculpture, the works consider the impact of new technology on our ideas of physical presence, and the ways in which technology is continually shifting our relationships to physical surroundings. The collection explores our idealization of the past and present, questioning our lasting interest with the physical world despite the ever-growing encroachment of virtual worlds." The opening reception was held the week before the winter Gallery Crawl, Friday, January 16, 6-8 pm.
